Who is Michael Owen?
I love to travel, explore the world, and try new experiences. I have a hard time sitting still in one place for a long time. In the past 10 years I have done the following:
- Spent 6 weeks in Costa Rica as an exchange student
- Studied Spanish in Guatemala for 2 weeks at an intensive Spanish exchange school
- Worked as a camp counselor, director, and project coordinator on American military bases with the military children in Japan, Germany, Italy, and Hawaii
- Studied abroad in Oviedo, Spain during the spring semester of my junior year of college
- Taught conversational English in Seoul, South Korea at a public Korean high school to about 700 students a week
- Served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years in Boynton Beach, Florida through the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County
- Represented the United States of America as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Repelon, Atlantico, Colombia as a TEL (Teaching English for Livelihoods) volunteer for 27 months
- Traveled to 23 different countries and 37 of the 50 United States
Now, the latest chapter of this adventure that I call life has brought me down to El Carmen de Viboral, Antioquia, Colombia to work as a community English teacher with the Maureen Orth Foundation.
May the adventure continue!
